They can't take THAT away from me...
Being raised Fundamentally Religious and ultimately experiencing religions from around the world, it's fascinating to me that none of them have anything to offer. Well, kinda. Now I say that a bit sarcastically, but when it comes to what I was seeking, few of them really 'hit home' when it came to my deep desire for Peace. Peace comes from within. Not from a process, not from a liturgy, not from a songbook or bible verse. Peace comes from within. Actually, it's inately a part of our God-given identity. It's part of who we are. Being alone is not being without. Being alone is actually the opportunity to Be within. Going inside to find the stillness and realizing that the "Peace that passeth all understanding" is something no one, nor any religion can ever give you, but it IS something that you can allow your Self to experience. I think of the Gershwin song, "They can't take that away from me...no they can't take that away from me...". I think of my Peace. No matter what you believe, no matter how you judge, no matter how frightened you are of who or what I am...you can't take my Peace away from me. That's sweet to know. Good to remember. But what about you, who have never really felt that Peace? I mean, never REALLY experienced the fullness of it? Can anyone or anything or any experience take something away from you that you never realized you had? Good for you! You still don't even realize what you've got coming to you. Sweet, sweet Knowing. Sweet sweet peace that passeth ALL understanding. That means shut up and just experience it. Stop talking. Stop thinking it through. Stop analyzing it and trying to figure it out. Just know it and pass it on. Once you realize that in your heart of hearts, in the stillness of your souls awareness of your own relationship with God, Spirit, The Universe, whatever you want to call it, once you realize that it's IN THERE, it can only be covered up. Forgotten. But never taken away. I wouldn't trade the Peace the Passeth All Understanding for anything that I can think of. And I only wish for a greater awareness that it's there and that it's an irrevocable part of Who I Am.
